Surrey Wildlife Trust – Surrey Biodiversity PartnershipBrand Design / Logo DesignSurrey Wildlife Trust asked Cyan Shiner to create a sub brand for them to help promote the biodiversity of the Surrey countryside. With this in mind we created a selection of alternative logo designs based around the oak tree and stag beetle, both of which are synonymous with the Surrey countryside. The logo which was finally selected is based upon the abstract branching forms of an oak tree and as well as depicting the oak symbolises the branching interconnected nature of the different habitats which can be found in Surrey. We made the logo available in a number of design variations to suit different situations such as use in stationery, web design or where the brand strap line is required. Web Site Design / Wiki Design – SkinningSurrey Wildlife Trust had already selected Wiki CMS (content management system) web site technology in the form of an XWiki in order to allow them to add content to the web site themselves. Cyan Shiner took the standard XWiki which they had in place and skinned it. This involved amending the XWiki style sheets to alter most of the visual elements of the web site whilst not changing its underlying structure which comes as standard with the XWiki interface. Web Site Design / Habitat Illustrations for Web Site Section BackgroundsAs well as amending the skin of their XWiki web site by changing its colour schemes, menus, logo and header we were also asked to design a series of habitat illustrations to be used as web site backgrounds. These web site backgrounds were to represent the different habitats which can be found in the Surrey countryside. In order to make these backgrounds into a more coherent set of designs we decided to base them not just on a set of habitats, but around the common theme of a walk in the Surrey countryside. With this in mind the home page illustration shows common elements from of each of the habitats illustrations, and each of the habitat illustrations shares common elements such as the church which can be seen from different angles in many of the illustrations. This gives the impression that whilst browsing the site you are on a journey through the Surrey countryside. The web site itself is still under construction as the Surrey Wildlife Trust are adding to its content currently, however you can browse the site and its habitats using the menu on the left hand side of the site. The top menu is not yet linked to the site pages. © Cyan Shiner Ltd 2004 - brand driven design solutions |
